With which type of fighter?
If you're a fighter with similar agility but greater speed (i.e. a dancer or a sissy), you can often just slap and they'll have a hard time keeping up. A smart manager will allout you to the body if you try this, so beware.
Clinchers will have a tougher time against ropists, but agile sluggers are about even. Slug to the body while mixing in lines like 7/6/7 to steal rounds. Sometimes ropists will try to slap for score against shorter opponents, so add endurance conditionals to your plan and ruin him with IPs with lines like 5B/10/5 (clinch) if he makes that mistake.
If you're a KP Balanced or KP Slugger, try to set up a flash as early as possible to take advantage of their (often) low chin and avoid the inevitable IPs you'll get from a prolonged fight.

I disagree, to an extent. In my opinion, Ropists are the best possible build given the current configuration of the sim. Counter is close, but still, ropists can beat Counterpunchers if played well. With which type of fighter? If you're a fighter with similar agility but greater speed (i.e. a dancer or a sissy), you can often just slap and they'll have a hard time keeping up. A smart manager will allout you to the body if you try this, so beware. You _have_ to. 4B/12/4 (allout), 5B/11/4 (allout), and cheat like you have no other option -- because you don't. You have to beat the tar outta these guys, so when the 6th round rolls around, they're to tired to just up and win. There is _no_ other choice. I can link you to a few fights I've had with ropists vs Sissys, it's a HARD match to win -- but winnable. Just shoot me a line if you care to see 'em. Clinchers, possibly, but not so much with freak clinchers. There does come a point where it's better to use (ring) than (ropes). Remember, the ropes deduction happens before the (clinch) bonus -- so if you take off three, and they gain fifteen, it's not worth much. As a slugger or clincher vs a ropist, you need to have good CON. Lines like 6/6/8 (clinch) may win rounds vs 4B/8/8 (ropes)... and from there, you can build a lead that makes them chase. In this game, if you can get the opp to go 5B/10/5 (inside) vs your 4B/8/8 (whatever), you've got a good chance to win. It's all a matter of planning, and being sure that your fighter is in "the right place at the right time". It's very doable, though. If you're a KP Balanced or KP Slugger, try to set up a flash as early as possible to take advantage of their (often) low chin and avoid the inevitable IPs you'll get from a prolonged fight. True to a degree, but it's very manager dependant. I'll often scout a fighter with KP, and find out what my _max_ threshold is before I get KO'd... and I'll push that limit. Your best bet with KP is probably to either slap to win or bait, unless regional with an opponent who doesn't much care to adjust. If someone sees KP, they're going to prepare for it the first few rounds. Unless you're able to beat 1/1/18 (whatever) with a flash, you're often best not flashing right away. It's a gamble, always, with KP. Chico's advice was right and wrong at the same time. This is natural in Webl, as things are very manager dependant. Sometimes, a guy will _always_ slap with one power from round 10 on -- and that guy, you _must_ 5H/10/5 (allout) every time until he learns -- and some guys are less predictable. Thus is the game we play:)

I've never had a tough time beating a ropist (with a sissy). A ropist manager or any manager for that matter knows (or at least thinks) that a sissy doesn't have many options. In fact, that is correct in a way because of their lack of strength, but there are ways around a suppsoed weakness. I've had ropist try to all out me just to get me tired, but i've found that sissies are better than they are given credit for, so i have found ways around that. Now a clincher? Geez, that's a hard fight to win.

Seeing Stars, I have defeated many a sissy with my Ropists almost always using the same style, outslapping them. I have been told by numerous people, and Sardonic will no doubt call me on it, that it is a bad idea, but it works for me far more often than not. Also, if you jump out to a score lead on a sissy he will open up and then you can sometimes catch them. I'll run a 9/1/10 or something and then increase my aggression each round whether I win the round or not thus forcing them to increase their aggression. If I cannot keep up with them in a slapping war I'll jump out to a point lead and then rest every second round or so and either take a one round win, or in worst case scenario, a draw.
I used this strategy recently against Gym Quay in our first Rookie Tournament fight and it worked exactly as it was planned.
Sardonic though also gives equally viable advice with strong inside lines and body allouts, I have never tried that myself but I have no reason to doubt what he says as he was the World Champion Ropist.

I hear ya Jim, i was supposed to do something on sissies but i got so sidetracked i completely blew that one.
Evolve, i don't question that at all. i dont know what the skill level of sissy manager that u were fighting at the time. No such thing as the perfect plan, but just like quay said, he wasn't thinking u would do something like that.
I must say my worst nightmares when using sissies without a doubt has got to be kp dancers...man they give me nightmares..
Oh Jim, i took that plan that you made against sissies and used it. Manu, u ought a be put in jail for coming up with something like that. I completely destroyed the sissy i was fighting. i felt kind a bad, seeing that i loved to use them, but that plan flat out worked to perfection. ;D

That is the only reason the outslapping plan works, they don't expect it.
And for the record it didn't work the second time on Quay. In retrospect I should have slapped and then laid on the power when he opened up (I would have assumed he thought I was doing the same thing). But, I thought either he wouldn't really remember what happened the first time, or, more likely, wouldn't think I would try the same thing twice.

for the second fight i was not sure whether you was going to use the same tactic so i started round one with high aggression and if i would have lost the round without being stunned i would have thrown some sissy bombs.
