I tried to get in the Brotherhood not long ago but have not looked into other clans. Is there a benefit to being a member of a Clan or are most of them simply social circles. Are there certain clans who seem to excel at certain fighter types? To me that would be beneficial, if you were making, say, a KP Dancer and a certain Clan was known for their KP Dancers I could see you trying to join to get an education from its members.

Clans actually help with the rest of the game.
I'm a member of UltraViolence, and we've got members all across the spectrum. We've got guys who excel in endurance battles, guys who do better in slapping, and guys who are best with KP. Getting information from all angles helps a lot -- whether it be scouting tips, or just looking to improve your own game.
We're all much more rounded players due to being in UV, and anyone who's joined and put any effort towards the clan would be hard pressed to say it hasn't benefitted them.
We've had 'Race to a Title' competitions, a private region exclusively for us, clan wars within the clan for practice (as well as actual clan wars, as well). We're currently doing a fighter rotation, which practically _forces_ those involved to get used to new and different fighter types.
But, for where they may struggle, they know there's advice and help just a few clicks away on our boards.
We're all better for it, and I'd recommend a clan to anyone who was interested in learning more about the game. Sharing information is one of the best ways to expand your knowledge, and working through things in groups is much easier than pencil-pushing yourself.

Clans come and go. Some are cosmetic and some are learning grounds. If a clan is serious about helping each other, then by all means jump in. My previous clan consisted of all newbies. We had an agreement we would all try to be online at roughly the same time. We also created our own chat room. There, we BS'ed and helped each other with match ups (scouting and plan writing). I think I am the only member of that clan without a WT (but I left WeBL for personal reasons). Most gyms in WeBL are very helpful and willing to help opponent's get better. The better the opponent, the better you will be.

Is that the same thing as sharing a fighter? I thought that might be something we could try here. It would give people a chance to scout, plan for a fight. Then a chance to explain there logic and discuss what went right and wrong in the fight.

Each person who wanted to be involved created a fighter, and named it "Name's UV Rotation Fighter". Each person will fight a fight with the fighter, then pass it to the next guy in line. At any given time, each person will have a fighter -- but it'll be a different one each week.
It might be best, for here, to just do 2 or 3 fighters. It's been awfully hard to organize the rotation, especially as the fighters are in different weight classes.
If something is set up here, keep them all in the same weight class -- and make sure they're different builds. It's a great resource for learning things, as you come across questions you probably wouldn't in normal conversation.

I tried to get in the Brotherhood not long ago but have not looked into other clans. Evolve, I am surprised Small hasn't got back to you. The way everyone was talking was you were a pretty good candidate to get in. You seemed to have learned the game pretty well and I think you are one of the best rookies I've seen so far. I'm hoping you'll get into the Brotherhood eventually, but not being the head, it's hard to say. We are a pretty good clan to just be coming back into existence. I feel we can hang with any clan in a clan battle (we are trying to get one against Evil Empire atm). Everyone in the clan has very good understanding of the game. Every single manager has some sort of strength with every fighter type or build. I think being a part of a clanis a good thing for any gym imo.

I actually didn't get a response from The Brotherhood. My interest is still there so maybe I should repost on the forum and remind them that I am still interested. The fighter rotation idea sounds like a wonderful idea, even if you do not plan on using the fighter type that you are trying at least you will know more about them when you face them. Also, I would like someone to work with one of my Ropists and see how they do. That sounds like an interesting idea actually. I'll try The Brotherhood again and if I do not have any luck I'll look into another clan.

I'd be happy to do a ropist trade with you, if you like. Just let me know, I'll build one up and send it over asap.

Just out of curosity, how many clans are out there? I've heard of some of the bigger ones like Evil Empire, SOS, Brotherhood, and BTP. Are there quite a few out there?

Best as I can tell...
-- BTP -- WTA -- SOS -- IWYN -- UV -- The Brotherhood -- Judgement Inc -- Bad Behavior -- Evil Empire -- TBH is still around, kinda... not nearly as active -- RIP
I may have missed a few... but I think that's most of 'em, at least.

It most definitely is -- but you'll know where to find me when you're ready for regionals.

I have to agree with jimsardonic that a clan will help you if your lacking skills in a certain fighter type. This to me would be the best reason to join. Good luck with your search there are some good clans out there and some that are trying to improve.
If you guys want to do a pass around fighter then unsanctioned would be a good place to go for starters in my oppinion.

I'd love to do a fighter rotational type deal I'm not particularly good at the overall game but I can construct some decent Fighter Types so if we are going to do it let me know and I will put something together

I'd be willing to do it as well. Maybe we can come up with something in the next week or so.

I actually have been talking with The Brotherhood and Evil Empire about joining either clan, but I have no idea which is a better fit or if there is even a difference.
I was thinking about possibly running a rookie tournament, eh, I'll start a new thread for that.

I'm a huge fan of the Brotherhood. Lambs and Schwag are excellent Central gyms, both of whom have lent me help in the past. Smalls is a class guy, who is always willing to help people who genuinely want to learn. There's a lot of young talent on the team that has a bright future.
You won't ever catch me saying a bad word about the Brohood, unless they make some drastic changes.
EE, I have a lot of respect for -- save for Dark Smiles. His constant attacks and otherwise begging for attention on the roleplay boards really demean the clan as a whole. On the basis that by being in a clan with you, he represents you -- I probably wouldn't join there.
Thor, Albino, Dark King, and Dark Prince all seem to be solid guys, though. DDT and Dark Refuge have potential to be pretty good, and the clan has a long history of being pretty good. They just need to stave off the long "hibernations" they tend to take, and bring themselves to the forefront for something other than Smile's inane ramblings.
It's up to you to choose what's best for you, though. Consider wisely, as the one thing that almost any clan asks for is loyalty.

After some looking around and speaking to a few clans I actually ended up joining Evil Empire. They are bringing in some other Rookie Gyms and seem to have an interest in growing by recruiting from the ranks of the Rookies. Some of the other clans I spoke with did not seem so interested in recruiting new Gyms. My original interest was towards The Brotherhood...but for my own reasons I selected Evil Empire. I suppose right now it is more about which clan will be the most beneficial to me, as I am to new to be able to add much to their clan roster. EE just started heavy recruiting so perhaps they are trying to grow and expand their numbers and their presence.
